About The Producer
Henri Boillot is at the epicenter of great winemaking and is one of the most respected winemakers in Burgundy. Under his craftsmanship and exceptionally skilled hands, his Chardonnay and Pinot Noirs are without a doubt top-tier Burgundies.Terroir & Vineyard Practices:
The soil is clay-limestone, the perfect mixture to nurture those Chardonnay grapes. The grapes are, of course, hand-harvested. One of Boillot's signatures is that he keeps his yields stunningly low - between 22 and 26 hectoliters per hectare. This practice is extraordinary because it's about half the yield of his neighbors.Tasting Notes
Allen Meadows has described past vintages of this wine as "There is a subtle touch of minerality to the detailed and discreetly saline-inflected flavors that possess the fine depth and length. Recommended as this definitely boxes above its weight."- Allen Meadows, BurghoundVinification
Boillot is hands-on. He practices strict grape sorting and selection. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in wood vats. The wine is aged for 10 months in a judicious amount of new and 1-2-year-old oak barriques. This treatment is very rare for Bourgogne Blanc, but this is Henri Boillot’s dedication to making the best of everything he bottles.Press
- 91 points- Decanter: “A marvelous entry point to the range, this has expressive aromas of ripe apple and fresh white flowers, with just a hint of spice. On the palate, the wine is fresh and surprisingly lively. Produced mostly with grapes from Auxey-Duresses and St-Romain, slowly pressed in a vertical press and fermented in cask (5% new), with most of its lees. Drink 2021-2029.”- Charles Curtis, MW, Decanter
- Outstanding!- 86 points – Burghound: “(85% from Meursault and Puligny Bourgogne vines and the rest from declassified St. Romain and Auxey-Duresses in equal proportions) There is enough reduction to dominate the underlying fruit and I would thus suggest decanting this first. More interesting are the fresh and delicious middle weight flavors that possess good mid-palate density while exuding a bracing salinity on the refreshing finale. Drink 2023.”- Allen Meadows, Burghound,
- Wine Advocate: “This year incorporating fruit from Saint-Romain and Monthélie, the 2019 Bourgogne Blanc exhibits aromas of pear, toasted bread and white flowers. Medium-bodied, racy and precise, with a nicely concentrated core of fruit and chalky back-end grip, it's a fine rendition of the appellation and represents a fine value. Drink 2020-2033.”- William Kelley, Wine Advocate
