About The Producer

Abadia da Cova is a family winery, in the heart of the Ribeira Sacra, in a magical place known as "O Cabo do Mundo." The aim of Abadía da Cova is to produce wines with the least possible intervention, respecting, and protecting the environment. The Moure family carries out all the work manually on the steep "heroic" terraced slopes along the Miño River. Renowned winemaker Nacho Alvarez has been working with the family and has crafted the 1124 collection as the winery’s top selection of wines. Each year they make a limited quantity of these varietal-specific wines.

Terroir & Vineyard Practices:

Abaida da Cova is located in Ribeiras do Miño, a sub-area of the D.O. Ribeira Sacra, which is found in the parish of A Cova, Lugar de Cuñas. All work is done by hand in the vineyard. The Quiroga vineyard has a southern exposure of 15-year-old vines planted in clay, pebble, and slate soils. They allow plant cover.

Tasting Notes

On the nose, the wine displays intense and deep hints of currant, blueberries, coffee bean, licorice, slate, cocoa, resins, pepper, and black tea. Excellent balance of its noble woods, with nerve and a persistent spicy finish.

Vinification

Manual harvest in boxes of 18 kilos. The grapes are selected manually. Native yeast fermentation takes place in 2000 L oak barrels. Aged for 6 months in 500 L barrels. Only 125 cases made.
