About The Producer

Bodegas Proelio is a dynamic winery in Rioja that produces modern-style wines. The combination of high-altitude vineyards at a north orientation, respectful viticulture, and micro-vinifications all converge to showcase varietal expression in this unique terroir. Their wines are that of tradition with elegance, freshness, and acidity. They have applied for Organic Certification.

Terroir & Vineyard Practices:

The fruit comes from the Finca La Asperilla vineyard, located close to Logroño near the Sierra de Camero in Rioja. With an age of 40-50 years old, the vines are planted in a combination of silt and clay-limestone soil with a ferrous component, which yields lively, fresh, and fruity wines.

Tasting Notes

A modern style Rioja with a beautiful cherry red color. Intense aromas of dark fruit, black and blueberry jam, along with creamy chocolate and coffee notes with a hint of vanilla. On the palate, the wine is round and silky with hints of dark fruits, vanilla, toffee, and coffee. The finish is long with notes of vanilla and licorice.

Vinification

Selected harvest. Cold maceration before fermentation. Natural yeast fermentation at low temperatures to preserve freshness and fruitiness. The wine is aged in American, European, and French oak barrels for 12 months.

  • 91 points - James Suckling: "Pomegranate, dark cherries, dragon fruit and candied orange peel are interspersed among vanilla bean and clove character. Quite muscular on the palate, which has a lot of tannins that surround layers of dark cherries.”- JamesSuckling.com
