About The Producer

Created in 1989, Domaine de Pignan can trace its origins back to an estate called Domaine Antoine Pecoul, which has been producing wines in Chateauneuf du Pape since 1855. This family estate is now under the care of Frederic Charvin (the fourth generation). Frederic lovingly maintains his family's 15-hectare estate of 25 different vineyard plots, all located in the Châteauneuf du Pape appellation (many of them in THE best sites).

Terroir & Vineyard Practices:

Coralie et Floriane is made from grapes harvested from 1 ha of mixed soil types that include: clayey-calcareous soil and rolled pebbles. The vines range from 80-130 years old lending deep concentration and complexity to this wine.

Tasting Notes

A very complex wine, this special reserve is unusual by the aromatic intensity of very ripe black fruits and spices (licorice, cloves, toasted nuts). A full-bodied attack quickly reveals gentle tannins, warm fleshiness, and flavors of black currant and blueberry with overtones of thyme. The finish is grandiose and long.

Vinification

The grapes are handpicked and sorted. Maceration covers a period of 25-30 days with controlled temperatures. Then the wine is aged for 18 months in concrete, stainless steel, and new oak barrels.

  • 91 points – Wine Advocate:“The 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape Coralie et Floriane blends Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah in equal proportions, with the Mourvèdre and Syrah aged in new oak. Still, the wine retains plenty of red-fruit character, joined by copious clove, allspice and even touches of peppercorn. It's full-bodied but not overly dense, with a certain lightness and silky feel that belies its labeled 15.5% alcohol, finishing long, vibrant and spicy. Drink 2020-2030.” – Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate
  • 91 points – JebDunnuck.com: "A smaller production cuvée based on an even split of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre brought up in a small amount of new French oak, the 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape Coralie et Floriane reveals a deeper ruby color as well as an incredibly floral bouquet that carries lots of darker currant and black cherry fruit, notes of peppery herbs and earth, medium-bodied richness, the soft, supple tannins of the vintage, and a good finish. It checks in behind the 2016 and 2017, but is nevertheless an outstanding wine with lots of character. It should drink nicely for over a decade. Drink 2020-2030.”- Jeb Dunnuck
