About The Producer
Domaine Girard is a family estate located between two rivers (Sèvre & Maine), in the heart of the Muscadet area, Rebourgère. What started as a small family farm with some cattle, cereal crops, and vines evolved into a winery in the 1970s under Gaston Girard. Patrick Girard (3rd generation) took over from his father in 1991, and in 2013 his son, Guillaume (4th generation), joined him. Today, the estate is 38 hectares, and they practice reasoned cultivation.
Terroir & Vineyard Practices:
The vineyards are planted on schist and gneiss subsoils, which gives elegant fruity aromas and very interesting mineral hints to the wine. The vines sit on slight slopes and are 15-40 years old.
Tasting Notes
The wine is pale yellow with gold reflections. It has an elegant nose with floral shades of acacia and honey, with warm notes of candied citrus and roasted hazelnuts. It is fresh with great minerality. Serve with seafood or cheese.
Vinification
Direct pressing with slow fermentation and resting on lees with one or two bâtonnages to substantially increase the mouthfeel and the richness of the wine. The wine is aged sur lie until the spring.
