Varietal(s): 100% Syrah

About The Producer

Pierre Gaillard is considered to be one of France’s top wine producers in the Northern Rhone, whose business is centered in the medieval town of Malleval. His first acquisition was a parcel of land in the St Joseph appellation, “Le Clos de Cuminaille”.

Terroir & Vineyard Practices:

The Cru appellation of Crozes-Hermitage sits on the left bank of the Rhône River. It’s got lots of power thanks to the acidity and tannins since it hails from a cooler climate. This Crozes-Hermitage is made from 100% Syrah. The grapes are from a 5 ha contiguous parcel vineyard planted in the early 1980s. The gravel soils provide good drainage.

Tasting Notes

This Crozes-Hermitage (100% Syrah) made by Jeanne Gaillard is perfectly elegant, with alluring floral aromas, berry fruits, and earth – and it is one of the surest values for a high-quality wine from this Cru appellation.

Jeanne's style is to hold onto the fruity flavors of the Syrah. Her vinification ensures the flavors remain fresh. Post-fermentation maceration. Malolactic fermentation in barrel. Aged 12 months used oak barrels.

  • 91 points - Jeb Dunnuck: "The deep purple-hued 2018 Crozes-Hermitage is outstanding, a charming, fruit forward effort very much in the style of the vintage. Loaded with notions of black and blue fruits, ground pepper, and violets as well as a touch of earthiness, drink it any time over the coming 5-7 years. Drink 2020-2026."-
