About The Producer

Bodegas Proelio is a dynamic winery in Rioja that produces modern-style wines. The combination of high-altitude vineyards at a north orientation, respectful viticulture, and micro-vinifications all converge to showcase varietal expression in this unique terroir. Their wines are that of tradition with elegance, freshness, and acidity. They have applied for Organic Certification.

Terroir & Vineyard Practices:

The fruit comes from selected small vineyard plots in Rioja that are located at an altitude between 400 and 700 meters. With an age of 45-50 years old, the vines are planted in a combination of clay-limestone and clay-iron soil with many boulders that yield powerful, structured wines with excellent aging potential.

Tasting Notes

A modern style Rioja with an eye-pleasing cherry red color. Intense aromas of dark fruit, black, and blueberries, along with coffee and chocolate notes with a hint of vanilla. On the palate, the wine is round and silky with hints of black and red fruits, earthy notes, vanilla, toffee, and coffee. The finish is long and persistent with vanilla and licorice.

Vinification

Selected harvest at optimal ripeness. Fermentation in stainless steel to preserve varietal aromas. Maceration for 10-12 days to extract tannins, followed by a gentle pressing. Malolactic fermentation in barrel. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 15 months.
