About The Producer
Castell d’Age is the creation of three generations of women in the Junyent family, located in the Beguda Baixa, in the heart of the Alt Penedés region. It all started with Aurèlia Figuera and then was transformed by Anne Marie Comtesse in the late 1980s with the production of Cava. Anne Marie is a pioneer in introducing organic farming in the region. With the addition of her daughter Olivia Junyent to the business, they are now certified organic and biodynamic agriculture, a method that respects the relationship between humans and earth.
Terroir & Vineyard Practices:
The Bodega is certified organic and biodynamic at the strictest levels, using little to no added sulfites in their wines. This wine comes from young vines grown in Can Vila on clay soils. The label represents all of the different aspects of biodynamic agriculture that come together to create the wine: the people, terroir, environment, climate, soil, etc.
Made from 60% Garnatxa and 40% Syrah, this wine reflects the true authenticity of place. It has a bright cherry color with ruby highlights. The nose is fruity with ripe, candied fruits, dried figs, and plums, combined with barrel notes of vanilla and toast. Big and warm on the palate with soft, noble tannins. A wine with personality ideal for appetizers, roasted vegetables, hearty kinds of pasta, and pork dishes.
