About The Producer

This small multigenerational family producer has a long history. They are located in the heart of Chavignol, considered a Cru of Sancerre. Serge's son, Guillaume, succeeded his father as the winemaker over 10 years ago and continues to raise the bar.

Terroir & Vineyard Practices:

Crafted from carefully selected parcels of estate-grown Sauvignon Blanc, the wine has superb balance, complexity, and depth. All of the fruit is sourced from 30-year-old vineyards in the Kimmeridgian soils of the celebrated Cote des Mont-Dames that dominates the village of Chavignol, undisputedly the site of the best terroir in Sancerre.

Tasting Notes

This is their top cuvee, which can age for 7 to 9 years. It appears pale gold with bright reflections. Aromas of Spring - prairie flower, citrus flesh, and exotic touch. On the palate, the wine has a tangy freshness with a smooth and enveloping mouthfeel. "MAGES" is, in fact, an acronym for the family: Marylise, Alexandre, Guillaume, Elisabeth, and Serge. This is made only in the best years. Production is limited, only 500 cases. Serve as an aperitif, with a finely cooked fish, or white meat, and cream sauces.

Vinification

Extensive sorting before a slow and delicate pressing. Cold fermentation. Raised on fine lees for 1 year, and then it rests 6 months in bottle before distribution.
