Sweeping along France’s Mediterranean coast, the Languedoc was long dismissed as a source of cheap bulk wine, but that story has changed dramatically over the last few decades. The sheer scale and variety of terrain, from coastal plains to rocky inland hills, gives producers room to experiment, and a new generation has chased quality with real ambition. Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Carignan drive the warm, generous reds, with pockets of excellent whites and sparkling Crémant too. It is one of the best places to find character and value in the same bottle.
