About the Region

Running along the Duero River on Spain’s high central plateau, Ribera del Duero makes some of the country’s most powerful and sought-after reds. The brutal climate, with scorching days and frigid nights at high elevation, stresses the vines into producing intensely concentrated fruit. Tempranillo, known locally as Tinto Fino, is the near-exclusive grape, yielding dark, structured wines built for the long haul. It sits comfortably alongside Rioja as a benchmark for Spanish red, with a bolder, more muscular style all its own.
